I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoy this Urban Fantasy series! I love it is set in Atlanta, so people who live in/near Atlanta will recognize many landmarks mentioned in the books. The world-building is so complete - I felt as if I wanted to *be* in Kate Daniels’ world. Basically, magic and mythical creatures like vampires and shape-shifters are REAL and they live in this world alongside us.
However, this isn’t an easy alliance...
Magic and Technology war with each other for control. When technology is in control, computers, electricity, engines and communications work. But tech can disappear like a dropped cell phone call without any warning and all of that technology ceases to work. When the wave of magic rolls in, people must use spells for defence and the most reliable transportation is horseback - as that remains steady no matter if tech or magic are in control. I especially loved the main characters of this series. They have depth and show growth. Kate takes no sass from anyone and can hold her own. She is sarcastic and this creates many humorous moments for the reader to enjoy. Each book has its own sub-plot to carry the story, while still managing to move the entire series’ plot forward. In addition to the main characters, the reader will meet supporting characters - some as short-term characters and some continuing throughout the series. The backdrop of Atlanta is also a character, showing two distinct personalities between tech and magic. If you enjoy Urban Fantasy and are familiar with Atlanta, I hope you’ll give this series a try.
