First, let me say, as an American woman, we have never experienced anything like this. Not anywhere in this country. Grab your tissue box, your favorite blanket and your comfort food. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and feel an amazing sense of empowerment. This story, though fiction, is representative of the experience thousands of young girls face in Nigeria. We expect to hear about things of this nature in a past tense, a story of long ago and long sense reformed, not something that happened as recently as this morning. The passion of Adunni reminds me to be appreciative of the privilege afforded to me in this country despite the adversity faced by my own community. You will root for Adunni and those who help her in her quest for education and to be a girl with a louding voice!
