Ten YA Books to Read This Fall

1. A Song of Wraiths and Ruin – Roseanne A. Brown

A Song of Wraiths and Ruin is the first book in a new fantasy duology. Two enemies – a princess and a refugee – find themselves falling in love despite their intentions to murder each other.

2. Serpent and Dove – Shelby Mahurin

Louise le Blanc fled from her coven of witches two years ago and went undercover as a thief. Reid Diggory has one purpose: do not let witches live. Serpent and Dove is set in France and features beautiful worldbuilding that’s easy to get lost in.

3. Clockwork Angel – Cassandra Clare

Set in Victorian London, Clockwork Angel is the first in the Infernal Devices series. If you’re a fan of the Mortal Instruments, I highly recommend Clockwork Angel – as it is the prequel series.

4. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – Ransom Riggs

Ready for Halloween? Then pick this one up. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children features fiction that displays photography woven throughout the book to bring you a supernatural mystery you won’t forget. Perfect for rainy fall days!

5. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer – Michelle Hodkin

This one is another one that’s perfect for Halloween. Mara Dyer has survived the impossible, but there’s one problem: she doesn’t remember it. The truth begins to muddle with haunting visions and wicked nightmares that make her question everything she’s been told.

6. Woven in Moonlight – Isabel Ibañez

Ibañez weaves together a beautiful tale full of revolution and magic. It’s inspired by Bolivian history. The writing is lush and captivating – as are the characters and story.

7. Feathertide

Marea was born covered with feathers. She spent her childhood in hiding and has never gotten answers to her many questions. When she sets out to finally get answers, she’s led to the City of Murmurs – and from there everything changes.

8. Sisters of Sword and Song

Sisters of Sword and Song is full of mythology and poignant storytelling. It tells the story of just how strong a sister’s love can be and how far we are willing to go for those we care about. Eva volunteers to serve part of her sister’s heavy punishment after being sentenced for murder as a way of finding out what really might’ve happened.

9. Bone Gap – Laura Ruby

The Midwestern setting is all you need to know about how fall-themed this is. Bone Gap features cornfields, mystery disappearances, and a small town riddled with secrets. It tackles the themes of love and loss while also asking the question: is what the world sees all that we are?

10. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – Jenny Han

Lastly, here’s a cute romance to offset all the darker stories on this list. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is about one Lara Jean – who wrote love letters to each of the crushes she’s had, but never sent them. That is, until her sister accidentally mails them one day. Lara has to face each of her old crushes and navigate exactly how she feels about love.
