Sky in the Deep (#1) by Adrienne Young I thought this was a fantastic story. It captivated my attention, partly the story (which is about warring Viking-like clans) and mostly the exceptional writing. The Girl the Sea Gave Back (#2) by Adrienne Young
Fantastic continuation from "Sky in the Deep". Different main characters though we get to revisit characters from SitD. Makes me hope for more installments of this story line. I had no difficulty falling back into this Viking world and thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in the story.
Both of these stories encompass the Viking way of life. Their land, the villages, their clothing and traditions are woven into an integral part of the story. We are given a small handful of main characters in the first story, with great character development. The women in this world are strong and capable. They are on equal footing with the men. In the second book, we revisit the world a handful of years later and the main character male was a child in the first book and the main character female is new. The other main characters from book 1 support the new story line in book 2.
Ultimately, the stories are about betrayal, survival and the choices we make. I enjoyed how the author placed her characters into extreme situations and their thought process at overcoming the obstacles in their physical and mental paths.
