by Malala Yousafzai

This book is available on eREAD KIDS for ebook checkout.

The story Malala's Magic Pencil tells Malala Yousafzai's story of her life. She discusses a television show that she used to watch as a child and the boy had a magic pencil where he could draw what he wanted, and it would come to life. Malala describes the different things that she would draw. The things she wanted, started as things for herself, but they progressed into things for others such as dresses for her mother or a ball for her brothers. Yet when she learned that in some parts of the world men and women are not treated equally and that many times girls were not allowed to get an education, Malala dreamed of a better world. Instead of trying to draw a better world, she started writing and doing interviews about girls who were too scared to continue their education. Then, one day these men who were preventing girls from getting an education tried to stop Malala. In turn, it made her voice more powerful and she learns that her voice is her source of magic.
