“Lost in the Library”

By Josh Funk

Illustrator: Stevie Lewis

Lost in the Library is a must-read for this fall. This cute, rhyming book brings to life the lion statues, Patience and Fortitude, that guard the New York Public Library. They’ve been best friends for quite literally decades. One night, just before sunrise, Fortitude wakes to find Patience missing. Fortitude sets off into the library to find Patience before all the humans wake up. Along the way, Fortitude tells about the history of the NY Public Library and makes friends other statue friends inside.

The storytelling is so precious. The rhymes make it more fun and it’s great for little kids as a bedtime story. Patience and Fortitude’s friendship was absolutely precious and I enjoyed reading about the library as Fortitude explored it. Of course, the setting is a bonus too – and the ending was literary too! I would love to see more stories about these statues.

At the end of the book is a little page all about the New York Public Library as well! It goes more in-depth about the rooms shown throughout the book and the statues with which Fortitude talked. I absolutely loved the story tidbits and it made me want to visit this library all that much more. This was a cute book that upheld my expectations for it!
