Five Feet Apart

by Rachel Lippincott

The book Five Feet Apart is a Young Adult novel written by Rachel Lippincott that tells the story of two teenagers who are both Diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). For a little background, Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening disorder that causes lung function to deteriorate and leaves patients needing new lungs. Patients also have a weak immune system. The big thing about cystic fibrosis is that two people who have the disorder cannot get within 6 feet of one another in worry that they will catch each other’s infection-causing possibly a worst strain. The story takes place in a hospital where Stella met a new patient Will. While they are supposed to stay 6 feet apart the two of them start to build a relationship and fall in love. Stella decides that she wants to take back a little control in her life and decides that she will take back a foot of her life. However, in the end, Stella and Will cannot be together for if they are it will result in one if not both of them dying.
