Divergent is a Young Adult story that takes place in a dystopian world taking place in the city of Chicago after the world was destroyed. The world is separated into five different factions (Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite). The story is told from the point of view of Beatrice (Tris) who comes from the Abnegation faction and her story of coming of age and having to choose the faction where she will spend the rest of her life. Before choosing though, a test is given to help all 16-year-olds determine which faction they would best fit. However, Beatrice’s test reveals that she is Divergent. This means that she does not fit in one faction but multiple. She cannot share this news with anyone though for risk of her life. Tris ends up joining Dauntless and going through the initiation where she has to train both physically and mentally to be in the top 10 of the class so that she does not end up factionless. While training mentally, Tris has to try even harder to conceal the fact that she is Divergent. In the end, Erudite takes control of the Dauntless through a serum then attacks the Abnegation. Tris and her love interest Four take back control and then go into hiding to escape the Erudite leader.
