"The Mud Pony" by Caron Lee Cohen is a wonderful children's book. A poor indian boy wants a pony. He goes down by the river and makes a pony out of mud and clay. The boy is separated from his tribe and is unsure how to find them. The pony comes to life with the words" I am here, your Mother Earth. You are not alone". With the help of the pony he finds his way back to his family and tribe. A beautifully illustrated traditional Skidi Pawnee tale.
"Pete the Cat" is illustrated by James Dean and written by Eric Litwin, Kimberly Dean and James Dean. "Pete the Cat" is a fun series of books about a cool cartoon cat in different settings like the farm, school and the library. There are 46 books in the series. They are great for beginner readers. I suggest reading the book to your child, then have them tell you about the story. You can also share read the book. Share reading is when you read a line of the story and then they read a line. Children love to reread these books. This is a great way to improve their reading while enjoying the book.
"The Real Winnie: A One-of-a-Kind Bear" by Val Shushkewich The story of Winnie, the real Canadian bear that captured the heart of Christopher, son of A.A. Milne, and became immortalized in the Winnie the Pooh stories, is told against the backdrop of the First World War. In August 1914, a Canadian soldier and veterinarian named Lieutenant Harry Colebourn, en route to a training camp in Quebec, purchased a black bear cub in White River, Ontario, which he named Winnipeg. The book tells great stories of Winnie's years in the military as a mascot. Then Winnie becomes a star attraction at the London Zoo. He inspired one of the most adored characters in children's literature. A fabulous story and intriguing history for children.
